Michael Banzhaf was born in Friedrichshafen/Germany. He studied at the ballet-academy "Heinz-Bosl-Stiftung" in munich under Prof. Konstanze Vernon.
In 1998 he joined the "Ballet of the German-State-Opera Berlin" .After becoming a Demi-Soloist in 2003, he was promoted to Soloist by Vladimir Malakhov,Director of "STAATSBALLETT BERLIN" in 2005.
Michael Banzhaf danced many principale roles like LENSKI (in Cranko´s "Onegin") , the PRINCE (in Partice Bart´s "Nutcracker") ,TSCHAIKOWSKY ( in Boris Eifman´s "Tschaikowsky), CARAVAGGIO (in Mauro Bigonzetti´s "Caravaggio" ),MERCUTIO (in Patrice Bart´s "Romeo and Juliet) , the PRINCE ( in Angelin Prejlocaj´s "Snowwhite"),CARABOSSE ( in Malakhov´s "Sleeping Beauty),
FIREBIRD (in Uwe Scholz´s "Firebird) ,MADGE ( in Peter Schaufuss´s"La Sylphide" ) and many more.
Michael Banzhaf has worked with many famous and outstanding choreographers such as Willem Forsythe ("Second Detail"),Angelin Prejlocaj ("Sacre" and "Snowwhite"),Mauro Bigonzetti ("Caravaggio") ,Nacho Duato (" Without Words"),Christian Spuck and Maurice Bejart.
Maurice Bejart chose him to dance the role of SIEGFRIED in his acclaimed choreography "Ring um den Ring" for the re-staging of his ballet in Berlin in Nov´2004.
Apart from that Michael Banzhaf danced in ballets and choreographies from Jerome Robbins,George Balanchine,Frederic Ashton,Pierre Lacotte and Jiri Kylian.
In 2007 he won the DAPHNE-Award for his achievement in the interpretation of his roles.
Michael was invited with Polina Semionova to take part on John Neumeiers "Nijinski-Gala 2007" with the Hamburg Ballet and he performed in China,Japan,Spain,Greece,and Switzerland.
His partners on stage include Nadja Saidakova,Polina Semionova and Diana Vishneva.
