Roman Lazik

Principal, Wiener Staatsoper, Vienna



Born in Slovakia, Roman Lazik started his ballet education at the Dance Conservatory in Bratislava. After winning several prizes at international competitions /1994-Brno, Paris; 1996-Prix de Lausanne, IBC New York;1997 Vienna, Eurovision Gdansk/ joined The Ballet of Slovak National Theatre as a soloist. At this time recieved awards as Philip Morris Ballet Flower Award for the best dancer, Award of the Prime Minister of Slovakia and Award of the Literary Fund.His next engagements were PACT Ballet Pretoria and The Israel Ballet. After two seasons he returned to Slovakia and worked with the company as a Principal dancer. In August 2000 Roman became a member of The Bavarian State Ballet as a demi-soloist. One year later he was promoted to a soloist and in 2003 to a principal. In September 2007, he   joined The Ballet of the Vienna State Opera as a soloist and in September 2010, he became a principal. His classical repertoire includes leading roles in Swan Lake, Giselle, Sleeping Baeuty, The Nutcracker, Raymonda, La Bayadere, Romeo and Juliet, Cinderella, Lady of Camelias,Onegin, Coppelia, Paquita, The Midsummer Night's Dream, and in works by George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins, Kenneth MacMillan, Jiri Kylian, William Forsythe, John Neumeier, Mats Ek,Twyla Tharp, Ray Barra, Hans van Manen, John Cranko,Roland Petit,Maurice Bejart, Lucinda Childs,Jorma Elo,Patrick de Bana and Jacopo Godani. Roman Lazik has also participated in gala and guest performances throughout Europe,Canada and Japan.
