Born in Krasnodar Territory

Graduated from Tbilisi choreographic college (class of B. Chabuaki), did fieldwork in Academy of Russian ballet n.a. A. Ya. Vaganova (class of G. Selyutsky).

After graduation he was taken to the troupe of Mariinsky Theatre, danced all leading parts of ballet repertoire. He took parts in all guest projects of the theatre: the UK, the USA, Western Europe, Japan, Argentina, Latin America.

Laureate (Grand-Prix) of International ballet dancer competition (Paris, 1990).

Since 1990 – guest star in Deutsche Opera (Berlin). In his repertoire there were ballets of Béjart Maurice, R. Petit, G. Balanchine, classical choreography.

Since 1992 till 1998 – premiere of troupe in New York Rity Ballet. In his repertoire there were more than 25 ballet  of G. Balanchine, including  " Theme and variations", "Apollo", "Four  temperaments", Brahms-Schoenberg-Quartet, Raymonda Variations, "Symphony of West", Allegro Brillante, "Nutcracker"; ballet of G. Robbins "Goldberg-variations", Four Seasons, P. Martins.

He took part in all experimental projects.

Since 1996 – guest star in The Royal Ballet, where he danced the following ballets: "Manon" (K. MacMillan), "The Sleeping Beauty" (edited by E. Dowel), "La Bayadere" (edited by N. Makarova), "Giselle" (edited by P. Rait), "Apollo" (G. Balanchine), "Romeo and Juliette" (K. MacMillan).

Since1997 till 2001 - soloist in Covent Garden.

As a guest star he danced in Teatro alla Scala, Bayerisches Staatsballett, Teatro Colon, in theatres of Boston, San Francisco, and Rio de Janeiro.

 In 2000 – guest star in Bolshoi Theatre of Russia: ballet  "La Bayadere", "Swan Lake".

Since  2001 till 2006 – assistant director of Athens theatre, choreographer director of performances "Don Quixote", "Raimonda", "Swan Lake", "The Sleeping Beauty", "La Bayadere".  Till the present time he is a premier of Mariinsky Theatre.

Since 2006 – artistic ballet director of Novosibirsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre.

In 2007 he directed ballet  " La Bayadere"  by L. Mincus, which brought to the Theatre 4 diplomas and 2 National theatre awards gGolden Maskh, one of which was awarded to Igor Zelensky for gThe best manfs part in the balleth (Solor).

In 2010 he directed ballet  " Swan Lake" by P. Tchaikovsky.

Since 2008 by the initiative of Zelensky the Theatre carries out the only international ballet festival beyond the Urals - Siberian Ballet Festival, which is attended by companies and soloists of the Bolshoi Theater of Russia, the Mariinsky Theater, the stars of world ballet scene.
